The Rebel Mowers Story

Hi, I'm Phil. It's Christmas 2024, I'm surfing the internet and a remote control mower appears up on the screen. I'd never seen one before and my eyes popped! Yeah baby what a toy! My first thought "Are they hard to break?"

"You buy now only $150!". Warehouse overstocked clearance special. So I did.
First trap- USD not AUD. Looks cheaper that way.
It never showed, the website, tracking details all disappeared.
Crossed arms and tapping foot. Frown of disapproval from the one who knows better.

The deal looked too good to be true and it was.

Not happy but I really want a remote controlled mower! I don't need one. I live on a flat small suburban block that is mowed quite well by a robot mower. But I really want one.

So I bought two. I purchased what I now sell as my Cyclone and Typhoon from another supplier (definitely NOT the same machines I now offer). I didn't know anything about remote control mowers or available options at this point and they were so desperate to make a sale that they didn't discuss (or being just sales people they didn't know) so I ended up with the cheapest.

I learned quickly about brushed drive motors as the tiny gearboxes fell apart and cracked. The motor drive gear to move a 150 Kg machine is only 8mm in diameter and spins fast.
If the drive motor is black with alloy covers on each end, red and black wires and no cooling fins the motor is brushed. AVOID these machines!!!

I had some problems with my mowers which at the start were fixed quickly but service gradually got worse. I was quite broken hearted and it is no exaggeration that every time I went to demonstrate the machines they broke down. Communication was the hardest part. Different languages, different cultures. Different company structure.

Meanwhile, I had the bug and decided I wanted to make a business that solved all the hassles I was going through, plus I wanted a legitimate excuse to play with remote control mowers.

So I bought another mower from another supplier.
This time a flail. I am curious about these machines. What is the difference?
My wife is hinting that maybe I should sell a motorbike or two at this point but naturally I disagree. I am on a mission and as you girls know, when your man gets the bug .....

My Rhino arrives and it is a tough little machine. We tumble it 50 metres down a hill after falling in a wombat hole, smash 7 foot tall blackberries, hit dumped concrete and the little diesel just keeps going.

Finally, my expectations are met or exceeded. What is even better, I start chatting with the supplier and discover I am talking to the owner, we can communicate intelligently and there is interest in forming an alliance.

I took it with a grain of salt initially because everyone is the owner or the manager but for once it turned out true. I start ordering, we keep talking and refining our machines as we discover new tweaks and these days I can proudly say we sell the best mowers we can think up in our price range. I don't want to sell crap just to get a sale.

Since then I have been delighted with the feedback from our customers across Australia as they solve their previously unsolvable vegetation problems.
